The First Step
Organize your photos...

Be proud of yourself! You are taking the first step to peace of mind and actually doing what you have always wanted to. We are glad to be a part of it and will help you every step of the way! Organizing your photos is not as scary as you think.
You'll need:
  • a notebook -  to keep track of dates, people and any other details that may be written in the album you are taking pictures from
  •  a sharpie marker - for labeling boxes/bags
  •   ziplock type baggies gallon size, or quart size
  •   and/or small boxes to store your photo piles once they are sorted.
Plastic baggies should be for temporary storage only. We recommend using archival boxes for long term storing all of your photos after they are out of albums.

With your Sharpie, label the baggies or boxes according to how you want to sort the pictures. Never use the sharpie or any kind of pen to write on your photos, not even on the back.
Gather all of your photos - look in every nook and cranny and in every box they might be in - get them all! If a relative has a photo that you know you'll want, see if you can get a copy now for your pile.
Clear off a table or a bed and sort. One box at a time - relax and enjoy the process. Lay your pictures on top of the bag or in the box lid until after you have cleaned your photos (see Second Step).

-Keep it Simple-
Most clients sort photos by how they would want them displayed in an album. If you have pictures that you would want in more than one album, just make a note of it in your notebook. (ie: which picture it is and what pile you'll find it in) Once they are sorted into a pile - sort them by size so that like sized photos are together.

Ideas of how to sort your photos:

  • The year they were taken (1935, 1970 etc.)
  • Person or family group (mom, Grandpa Henry or Smith extended family etc.)
  • Event (vacation, wedding, holiday, birthdays)
  • Time period (Elementary school, High school, College, Dating, Early years, Life with kids etc.)
  • Location of places lived (Derby Kansas, or NYC)
Imagine how great this is going to feel once you are done!
